our story
one year on
Since the age of 15, I've been captivated by the world of strength training. Now, at 26, with a beautiful wife and my first-born son, more knowledge about life itself, I've come to appreciate the deeply personal journey back to health. At one point, my life was marked by major weight fluctuations, especially during my early twenties when I neglected my fitness and nutrition. However, everything changed when I got engaged to my wife in 2020. That was my turning point—my decision to reclaim my health.
Every morning, after finishing work at 8am, starting at midnight in the produce industry, I found myself falling in love with training again, dedication and determination fuelling my return to the world of strength training. It wasn't easy at first, especially finding clothes that made me feel both comfortable and confident during my workouts. And that's when it struck me: I wanted to create something that would impact others who faced similar struggles— a brand that would serve both world class athletes and those rediscovering their fitness journey.
In 2022, the legendary Ronnie Coleman became a major inspiration for me. His iconic mantra, "Lightweight Baby!" resonated deeply and became the driving force behind the name Lightweight Athletic Club. It encapsulates the spirit of resilience and determination that I wanted my brand to represent.
With Lightweight Athletic Club, my vision was to unite these communities under the rallying cry that "Every Dream Is Possible." I wanted to inspire people to get back on track, embracing both the triumphs and lessons from life's experiences.
The journey was filled with challenges: sampling from 14 manufacturers and ultimately partnering with ethical factories in Portugal. My drive to ensure sustainable and quality production led me to form deep and meaningful relationships with our partners, who have become an extension of my global family. They even traveled from Portugal to Sydney for our launch, a testament to the bonds we've forged.
Success for me isn't about hitting sales targets; it’s about building a community where people support and push each other to chase their dreams, not only in fitness but in all areas of life. Our "Training Jam" gym meets are a celebration of this ethos, bringing people together for fitness, community, and fun.
Through thoughtful design and commitment to sustainability, we launched "The Foundation" collection—a timeless capsule that speaks to those who value quality and longevity. Looking ahead, I envision expanding our presence, adding small collections to our foundation and releasing limited drop capsules. Building on our once a month Training Jam, to host a 250 person “Training Jam For Charity” as our one year celebration which would see Training Jam turn into a small fitness festival for the day.
Ultimately, Lightweight Athletic Club is more than just a brand. It's my personal commitment to proving that, truly, every dream is possible.
